The San Bernardino Valley College men's cross country team opened its season at the same location that it hopes to race at the end of the season.

If Friday's results are any indication, a return trip to Fresno's Woodward Park is in the plans.

The Wolverines finished second in the 18-team field at the Clovis Crush Invitational.

Friday, sophomore Vinnie Quiroz led the team to the finish line, finishing sixth in a time of 21 minutes, 5.35 seconds - a second faster than he finished at the state championships in Fresno last November. 

Fellow sophomore Kevin Nava was next to stop the clock in the race, finishing 14th at 21:28.18. Zach Calderon was the next Wolverine to the finish line, finishing 21st at 21:55.86. Elijah McBroom took 29th in the field with a time of 22:12.35, while Alan Varela closed out SBVC's top five with a time of 22:28.07 for 37th.

SBVC's next challenge will be closer to home, running in the Southern California Preview race at Chaffey College on Sept. 13.
